Get Into Golf update:  We offered a beginner clinic for women and girls in November.  9 people signed up and 8 completed the clinic.  They are still playing, and most have purchased their own clubs.  Another session is planned for February 25 until March 25th.  Thanks to everyone who donated clubs, bags, and balls.  The Women’s Committee purchased a new set of women’s clubs and a bag for use in the clinics and as hire clubs.  In addition, we have a second, complete women’s sets of clubs for use in the clinics and for hire.  A special thanks to Leanne Pollard who completed the Community Instructor program with me and has been a tremendous help teaching and supporting the new women golfers.

I want to offer similar clinics for junior boys and girls, but we need more Community Instructors to step up and help.  The Community Instructor course is done online and takes a couple of hours.  The $99 fee would be refunded by the Club.  Anyone completing the course must have a Working With Children certificate which is done online as well.  The perfect instructors would be Mums and Dads who have kids interested in golf but anyone with a passion for golf and teaching kids would be most welcome.  There is great support material available from Golf Australia and we have all the equipment needed too.  It takes about 2 hours at each clinic.  If anyone is interested in helping with any clinics, please reach out to me or Glenn Robinson.

Royal Women’s Hospital 4 BBB Update from Golf Australia:

The 2022 season saw a very successful Royal Women’s Hospital 4BBB event across 65 clubs. Thank you to all who participated in this fantastic event.

As a collective we raised $7,437.50 to be donated to The Royal Women’s Hospital.

Firstly, we would like to congratulate all who participated in the event for assisting to raise much needed funds for the Royal Women’s Hospital once again. Executive Director of Philanthropy and Community Investment Jason Smith was delighted by the news and has given in site into how these funds will benefit. Jason Smith said, “The Royal Women’s Hospital is immensely grateful to Golf Australia for their ongoing support of our work. Funds raised through the 2022 Fourball event will go towards a new vital signs monitor in our Urogynaecology Clinic, to help assess and treat women with pelvic floor dysfunction. Thank you so much to all involved!”

A big congratulations goes to our winners from Gisborne Golf Club; Jennifer Malberg and Maryanne Mocnik who had 53 points! Our runners up for the event are Veronica Maher and Rhonda Bradley from Trentham Golf Club with 50 points.

Along with our overall winners we also have a regional winner and a metropolitan winner both of which were contested very tightly. Our Regional winner from Moe Golf Club with a score of 48 points c/b was Kathy Borg and Sandy Tate. Our Metropolitan winners from Yarra Yarra Golf Club with 48 points c/b was Thanh Chau and Connie Lau.

Again, a big congratulations to our winners and all who completed.

As our 2023 season begins, I hope everyone enjoys their golf and the camaraderie of good friends.
