January Monthly Medal

Phil Thomson won the January Monthly Medal.  Phil started his round well, birdieing the 2nd and 6th holes. He then had a slight hiccup on the 9th, however still managed to be nett 2 under at the turn.  Phil shot a fabulous back nine that saw 7 pars and only 2 bogeys to finish his round with nett 67, 1 shot clear of the next best.

Drouin Garfield Challenge

We are still looking for more players to help us win back the Drouin/Garfield Challenge.  If you are interested please place your name on the notice board or contact myself.

Match Play Championships.

The Match Play finals are scheduled to be played on Saturday 20th January. Thanks to all those who have completed their preliminary rounds.

Club Championships

The 2024 Men’s Club Championships are just around the corner.  They consist of a 3 round aggregate score and there are 4 graded championships, each consisting of a gross and net champion.  There is also a Senior Championship for players aged over 55 and a Junior Championship for all players regardless of gender who are 20 years old or younger, both of which are a gross competition.  The dates for the championships are Feb 3rd, 10th & 17th.  In the case of inclement weather, 2 reserve days are available which are 24th Feb and 2nd Mar.

Full conditions of play will be available on the notice board.

Master Medal

11 of the 12 Monthly Medal winners in 2023 are eligible to contest for the Master Medalist held on 3rd February.  The best nett score from the following players will win the 2023 Master Medal: Glenn Bayne, Shane Davidson, Craig Stevens, Paul Barratt, Damon Whaley, Jake Simpson, Chris Stoker, Pete Smith, Mark Stewart, Mitch Dyer and Mark Klaver.  Good luck to all players.

2nd – Pete Smith 804

Sunday Competitions

Sunday competitions are gaining traction, with field sizes increasing each week.  These are open to members and visitors with the cost and prize allocation remaining the same as our normal competitions.

Nearest The Pins

The new sponsor flags for Saturday’s nearest the pins are now out on course.  The sponsor on the flag corresponds to the prize.  Prizes are available to collect from the Pro Shop following the conclusion of the day.  When writing the distance of your nearest the pin, we ask that everyone please use centimeters, as this will help avoid confusion with distances.

Plates

Thank you to all the players who have represented the club in the Plate Days.  The club had some individual success at Garfield’s Plate last Saturday.  Glenn Flowers won A Grade with 37 points, but unfortunately this was upstaged as Mark Klaver managed to live out every golfers dream by scoring a hole in one.  Mark scored this on the down hill Par 3 11th hole, landing just short of the hole before rolling and dropping in.  Congratulations Mark.

That is all for now and I will leave you with this quote from 7 time Major Champion, Harry Vardon.

“For this game you need, above all things, to be in a tranquil frame of mind.”
