July Captains Report

July Monthly Medals

Congratulations to Graham Rawson who won last Saturday’s Men’s Monthly Medal. Graham had a steady start to his round making the turn at nett 1 under. The back nine is really when he hit his straps, birding the 11th hole before a string of 5 pars in a row. A slight mishap on 18 wasn’t enough to derail a fantastic round finishing the back nine with 39 off the stick and a total of nett 62, 7 shots clear of the pack.

Congratulations to Leanne Pollard who won the Ladies Monthly Medal last Tuesday. It was a close contest, with Leanne winning on a count back. After a solid front nine of nett 38, a string of 5 pars from holes 12 to 16 set up a strong back nine to finish with a nett 76 and claim July’s Medal.

The Dwyer Cup

It gives me great pleasure to announce that the club has a new Perpetual Trophy. When you scroll through the names on the honour boards at the club, one family name makes an incredible number of appearances. Between Jack, Kath and Shane there are 31 club championships so to honour the Dwyer family we are proud to name this trophy in their honour. If you haven’t had the opportunity, I encourage you to read George Shand’s wonderful article on the Dwyers, which is available on the club’s website. All members are eligible to win this trophy and the winner will be the player with the best aggregate score from their best 5 rounds over the 8 seasonal events (Autumn Amble, Winter Wade, Spring Sprint & Summer Stroll).

Special Competitions Hub

With more auxiliary competitions now held at the club (eg. Premier League, Shootout, Family Hotel Challenge, Dwyer Cup, we have made a page on the website for results and leaderboards. This page can be found under the golf tab on the drop down menu on the homepage.

Winter Wade

The second season event of the year runs over the 13th & 20th July. The best aggregate score from the 2 rounds will be this year’s winner of the Winter Wade. These 2 rounds also form the 3rd & 4th round of the Dwyer Cup.

Upcoming Competition

The competition for July 27th is Par Bisque. This competition format is Par with a twist. Players may choose where to allocate their handicap strokes instead of using the handicap index. Players will choose how many or any strokes they wish to use after playing each hole and before teeing off the next hole. Example being after the first hole the player scores a 5, they may choose to use 2 shots to make a plus, 1 shot to make a half or no shots for a minus. Any unused shots after 18 holes are forfeited. For this competition players must mark their score on a score card as MiScore doesn’t have the option of a Bisque competition. This round will be handicapped for Golflink and your normal Par score will be used and may differ from your Bisque score.

Drouin Family Hotel Challenge

Graham’s win last Saturday has catapulted him into lead with the other 4 Monthly Medalists closing nipping at his heals. Below are the top 5 players with the full leaderboard now available on the club’s website under the Special Competitions Hub.

1.Graham Rawson 553
2. Glenn Vanderlight 517
3.Mark Gould 516
4.Bob Naismith 512

Shootout

The shootout is still open for registrations, the current leaderboard is available on the club’s website, under the Special Competitions Hub and on the noticeboard.

Stroud Trophy

The 2024 Stroud Trophy has been run and won, with the father/son duo of Mat & Aiden Elliot claiming a 2up victory over club stalwarts Graham Austin and Eric Robbins.

That is all for now, but I’ll leave you with this quote from Winnie The Pooh Author AA Milne.

“Golf is so popular, simply because it is the best game in the world at which to be bad”.
