October/November Captain’s Report

Monthly Medals

Congratulations to Jay Hanks for winning the Men’s Monthly Medal for October.  A strong start from Jay saw him nett 4 under after 9 holes.  A steady start to the back 9 with 4 nett pars before finishing the last 2 holes nett 3 under and winning the medal by 1 shot with nett 65.

Congratulations to Bob Simpson for winning November’s Men’s Monthly Medal.  Bob started strong and never let up all day, shooting 2 over the card on the front nine had him nett 3 under at the turn.  The back nine was even better which included 2 birdies on his way to 1 over the card for the nine.  A fantastic score of 75 off the stick and 65 nett saw Bob take home the medal by 1 stroke.

Congratulations to Sue Crosby who won the Ladies Monthly Medal for October.  It was an up and down front nine for Sue however she managed to make the turn nett 2 over.  The back nine was when the charge started clawing back those 2 shots before gaining another 2 to finish with nett 71 and claim the medal by 6 shots.

Hole in One

Congratulations to Mark Jensen-Schmidt who is the latest player to score a hole in one at Drouin.  Mark achieved this feat in Saturday’s comp on September 21st.

Congratulations to Eddy Van Der Pligt who also shot a hole in one on the 5th Hole during last Saturday’s competition.

Match Play Championships

The qualification rounds for the Match Play Championships are October 26th & November 9th.  The top 8 aggregate scores per grade over these 2 rounds will qualify for the match play component.  Any players wanting to play in these championships must register their names on the form on the notice board before November 9th.  Grades are determined by the player’s daily handicap as of October 26th and are as follows.

A Grade 12 or lower

B Grade 13-20

C Grade 21 or higher

 

Family Hotel Challenge

A couple of changes at the top over the last 2 rounds of the challenge.  Bob Simpson has now separated himself from the pack, with a win and runner up in the last 2 Monthly Medals.  Bob currently leads by 183 points over Glenn Vanderligt, with Mark Gould another 15 points behind in third place.  Full leaderboard available in the club’s website and on the notice board.

Spring Sprint

Congratulations to Stu Whaley who won the Spring Sprint narrowly by 1 point, scoring 41 & 31 points over the 2 rounds for a total of 72.

Dwyer Cup

6 rounds have now been played in the Dwyer Cup, the final 2 rounds are scheduled for December 14th & 21st and run in conjunction with the Summer Stroll.  With the best 5 scores counting over the 8 rounds, 42 players have currently played 5 rounds.  Paul Timewell currently leads this competition by 8 points.

Pennant

The 2025 Golf West Gippsland Pennant fixture is to be finalized very shortly.  The club are fielding teams in all 3 divisions, Scratch, Handicap 1 & Handicap 2.  The season starts on February 2nd and the Final is scheduled for the 27th April.  Once again are captains are Matt Long, Tristan Ashby and Graham Rawson, if you would like to participate in Pennant next season please contact myself or one of the captains above.

Premier League

This years spring season of the Premier League is now underway.  We have 12 teams competing and everyone will play each other once with the top 4 teams making the Semi Final.  Thanks to everyone who is participating and fixtures and results are on the club’s website.
