May’s Captain’s Report

Monthly Medal

Congratulations to Paul Barratt on winning May’s Monthly Medal.  Paul looked in control of his round all day, shooting 5 pars on the opening 9 holes and turning in net 2 under par.  From there Paul shot another 4 pars to go along with 2 birdies on holes 11 & 14 and finished the day with 77 off the stick and a net 65.

Rainy Days

When the weather turns sour, we understand that some of you wish not to play golf, which is fine.  We kindly ask that if you are booked in and decide not to play, could you please ring the Pro Shop and/or remove your booking from the timesheet as soon as you know.  This helps us greatly in rearranging groups and means that we do not have players waiting for other players that are not going to show.  Thanks to those who do let us know, we appreciate it.

Pennant

GREAT NEWS. Our Scratch Pennant team has made it to the final.  The guys have been undefeated all season and with a win on Sunday in the Semi Final they are now due to take on arch rivals Morwell on Sunday week.  The match will be played at Warragul on Sunday 21st May, teeing off at 9:45am.  I encourage members, family and friends to come and support the guys in their bid to go back to back.

Presentation Night

As you are probably aware the club is hosting a Presentation Night this year.  We have managed to secure former touring professional and radio presenter Mark Allen.  I encourage you all to come along and celebrate the club’s and members achievements as well as listening to Mark’s amazing golf journey and life story.  I promise you that this will not be your typical boring presentation night.

Cuthbertson Mixed Canadian Foursomes

The Annual Cuthbertson Mixed Canadian Foursomes was played on ANZAC day.  With 20 pairs competing on the day, the duo of Shirley Roberts and Geoff Ashby took out the Gross competition by 1 stroke with a score of 80.  The Handicap competition was won by Suzanne Hatfield and David Wigg with a score of 711/8 and Runners Up were Leanne Pollard and Tristan Ashby with 723/4.

Drouin Family Hotel Challenge

Craig Stevens still holds on to his lead in the Family Hotel Challenge. Paul Barratt has made the leap into 3rd Place with his win on Saturday.  Rounding out the top 5 are Tristan Ashby and Jarrod Reid.  Points on Saturday have been reduced due to the size of the field.  Full results are available in the link.

Thanks to the Drouin Family Hotel for their generous contribution to this event.

Drouin Premier League

The Drouin Premier League is now nearing the end with things getting tight near the top of both groups.  There will be no competing this week as our Foursomes Championships will be played.  The final round will conclude the following week.  This will be followed by the Semi Final the week after and the Final will be played on June 3rd.  Saturday’s results are in the link provided.

Foursomes Championship

This Saturday sees the Men playing their Foursomes (Alternate Shot) Championships.  We only play this format once a year and it is the ultimate team competition because both team members rely on each other.  There is both a Scratch & Handicap competition running concurrently with each other.  The handicap for each team will be ½ their combined handicap.  Here is a quick reminder on how this format works. Teams of two will play 1 ball with each player taking turns to play each shot.  The player who tees off hole 1 will tee off on all odd numbered holes, while the other player will tee off the even numbered holes.  Cost for this competition will be $20 per pair.

I will leave you with this quote from legendary player Ben Hogan

“The most important shot in golf is the next one”
