September Captains Report- Presented by Glenn Robinson

September Monthly Medal

Congratulations to Mark Stewart on winning the Monthly Medal for October.  Mark started out slowly, but a birdie on the 8th helped him turn at nett even.  A steady string of bogeys on the back nine helped keep a good score going.  A strong finish paring both the 17th & 18th saw Mark take the Medal on a count back with an impressive nett 68.

Pennant

The 2024 Golf West Gippsland Pennant Season is due to get under way on the 11th February with the final on the 5th May.  Our Handicap Pennant Captains for the upcoming season are Tristan Ashby (Division 1) and Graham Rawson (Division 2).  If you are interested, a sign up sheet will be posted on the notice board.  Please don’t hesitate to contact Tristan, Graham or myself if you would like more information.

Sunday Competitions

A reminder that the club runs competitions on Sundays. These are open to members and visitors with the cost and prize allocation remaining the same as our normal competitions.

Drouin Family Hotel Challenge

There has been no change in the top 2 spots, with Pete Smith still leading Craig Stevens by 77 points.  Chris Stoker remains in third but gained 19 points on the leaders, now 97 points behind Craig. Mark Stewart’s win on Saturday moved him into 4th place, while Paul Barratt rounds out the top 5.  Full results are on the notice board.

Men’s White Course

Just a reminder that the Men’s White Course (Red Tees) is still available to be used during all competition rounds.  We have had a handful of members take up this option.  Players are still eligible to win the daily competition off these tees.

Saturday’s Nearest The Pins

If you have not yet collected your vouchers for the sponsored Nearest the Pins, they are available to be collected from the Pro Shop. It would be greatly appreciated if you could redeem these vouchers and look after the businesses that have sponsored them.

Premier League

The Premier League got underway on Saturday with both Rounds 1 and 2 been played.  Results will be displayed on the notice board as well as the fixture and ladder.  We have 16 teams of 6 players, which is fantastic. Thanks to all players who have put their hand up to play in this competition.  There are some slight changes to last time. The best 2 scores still count towards the total, however in the event of a tie, the third score will count as a count back and so on. To ensure that every team plays each other, multiple double headers will be played.

Match Play Championships.

The first round of qualification for the 2024 Match Play Championships will be held on the 28th October. This year players will have to advise me before their round whether they wish to compete in the Championships.  This is to avoid walkovers in the competition.  The top 8 scores from the 2 qualifying rounds in each grade will advance to the Match Play.  The final is scheduled for the 20th January 2024.  Grades are listed below

Scratch (No Handicap)

A Grade (12 or Lower)

B Grade (13-20)

C Grade (21 or Higher)

Players will be graded by their Daily Handicap as of the First Qualifying Round.  Handicaps will not be locked for remaining matches and players will use their Daily Handicaps on the day of matches.

That’s all for now and I’ll leave you with a quote from the one and only Long John Daly.

“The only way I’ll ever make the Ryder Cup team is when I become Captain; then I can name myself on the team.”
