February Monthly Medal/2023 Master Medalist
Congratulations to Shane Davidson who claimed the double on Saturday, winning both the Monthly Medal and the Master Medal. Shane had a strong front nine helped by a birdie on the 9th hole, making the turn nett 3 under. 4 pars on the first 5 holes off the back nine then had Shane nett 5 under. Then came an eagle on the 15th hole, which sealed victory in both February’s Monthly Medal and the Master Medal of 2023.
Drouin Family Hotel Challenge
The Drouin Family Hotel Challenge is coming close to its conclusion, with 2 rounds left. This means that 1000 points are still up for grabs, so there are still plenty of players left in the hunt. The current top 5 are below, with the full leaderboard on display in the clubhouse.
1st – Craig Stevens 867
2nd – Pete Smith 804
3rd – Chris Stoker 793
4th – Tristan Ashby 663
5th – Shane Davidson 643
Drouin Garfield Challenge
Thanks to all the players who represented the club in the Drouin/Garfield Challenge last month. Both clubs had 26 players each and I’m proud to say, we managed to win the trophy back. Our combined total of 850 points was enough to get over the line, with Garfield managing 825 points.
Nearest The Pins
Nearest The Pins on Saturday’s and Wednesday’s are now to be entered on the MiScore App. As long as 1 member of your group is using the App, they can put any of their playing partners names down. Please remember to use CM not meters when entering your score.

Club Championships
The Club Championships are now under way. Good luck over the next 2 weeks to those competing. To view the leaderboard after the 2nd and 3rd rounds on either the website or the MiScore App, you must select the date of February 3rd. We ask that the top 4 players in each grade after the 2nd round to play in the seeded time slots available. This is not compulsory, however we ask this in case a playoff is needed so we can organise the playoff without delay. If a playoff is needed, it will be a sudden death playoff using the following holes in this order, 1,8,9,7,8,9. These holes are played to keep within close proximity of the clubhouse.
Pennant
The Golf West Gippsland Pennant season gets under way for our Handicap 1 team this Sunday, while Handicap 2 starts a week later and Scratch on the 3rd March. The club is hosting Pennant on Feb 25th (HDC 1), April 7th (HDC 2) and April 21st (Scratch). The course on these days will be closed until early afternoon and no competitions will be played on these Sunday’s. Members are welcome to come down to watch and cheer on our lads. Good luck to all players who are representing the club in Pennant this season.
Albatross
As most of you are aware, Phil Adams has joined a rare group of golfers by scoring an Albatross. Phil scored this on the 7th hole during the Saturday Competition on the 20th January. Phil became the 5th player and the 6th Albatross to be scored at Drouin. Congratulations Phil.
Pace Of Play
It is great to see both our Wednesday and Saturday Competition fields with strong numbers. With this comes the possibility of slower rounds. I would like to thank the vast majority of members who have kept their groups moving and not made this too much of an issue. As a guide to how long a stableford round should take, we expect groups to play in a time of 4 Hours or under.
That is all for now, but I’ll leave you with this quote from leading golf Psychologist, Dr. Bob Rotella
“Golf is about how well you accept, respond to and score with your misses, much more so than it is a game of your perfect shots.
