Monthly Medals

Congratulations to Nathan Mhizha who claimed August’s Monthly Medal on Saturday.  Nathan’s front nine was fairly solid and made the turn at nett par.  A strong start to the back nine had him nett 8 under at one stage which helped as the last 3 holes were a struggle, however Nathan managed to hold on to the lead and finish with a nett 68.

Congratulations to Vanessa Campbell who won the Ladies Monthly Medal on Tuesday.  It was a slow start for Vanessa who after nine holes was nett 3 over par.  A resurgent back nine that saw 4 nett biridies helped Vanessa to win the Medal by 1 shot with a nett 73.

I would like to make a correction to last month’s Ladies Monthly Medal.  I incorrectly said that Leanne Pollard had won the medal, when it was herself and Michelle Fairlie who actually tied and were due to playoff last Tuesday.  I can now say that Leanne has won July’s Medal due to Michelle unfortunately being unavailable to play.  Congratulations again to Leanne.

Hole In One

In the Stableford competition on August 10th, Shirley Roberts scored a hole-in-one on the 10th hole, to make things better the 10th Hole was the Pro Pin hole also.  Congratulations Shirley

Winter Wade

Congratulations to Aiden Elliot who won the 2nd seasonal event of the year.  Aiden had rounds of 40 and 30 points to secure victory with 70 points over the 2 rounds.

Family Hotel Challenge

Graham Rawson still holds onto top spot in the challenge with Bob Naismith jumping up 2 places into 2nd spot.  Glenn Vanderlight and Mark Gould have both dropped 1 spot and are in 3rd and 4th place respectively.  Rounding out the top 5 are Jake Simpson and last Monthly Medal winner Nathan Mhizha who are both tied.  Leaderboard is available on the website and noticeboard.

Shootout

35 points are now needed to qualify for the Shootout competition and this will surely rise over the next 2 months.  Registrations are still open for this competition with qualifying ending on September 21.  The final will be played on Sunday October 13.

Dwyer Cup

4 rounds of the Dwyer Cup have now been played.  There are still 4 rounds to be played on September 14th & 21st and December 14th & 21st.  This is a Individual Stableford Aggregate with players best 5 rounds counting towards their total.  Current leaderboard is on the club’s website under the Special Competitions Hub tab.

Premier League

The next edition of the Premier League will commence on the 5th October.  The format will remain the same with teams of 6 players and the best 2 scores counting.  The cost will still remain at $10 per player and all payments must be received before October 5.  Team registration forms are now available from the Pro Shop.  If you wish to play in this event and don’t have a team or if you are short on players to fill a team, please contact me and I’ll help you out.

Special Competition Hub

A reminder that results and leaderboards of competitions not on the MiScore system are available on the club’s website.  To access this visit the full website version and under Golf there is a link called Special Competitions Hub.  The results for last month’s Par Bisque competition are there along with Shootout, Family Hotel, Dwyer Cup and Premier League leaderboards.  If you are having trouble accessing this please contact myself or see Pro Shop staff for help.

B, C & D Grade Club Champions

We are in the process of filling in gaps in winners of Club Championships.  Currently we are missing winners for Men’s B, C & D Grades in the years between 2009-14 & 2019-21.  If you have won during these years or know someone who did, could you please let me know and help us fill in these gaps.

Plates

Over the last 12 months our club has been represented at almost every other club’s Plate event.  Thanks to the many players who have represented our club in these events.  For those of you unfamiliar with these events, they are a great way to play courses through Gippsland at a very reasonable price.  The Plate is contested by teams of 4 players, with the best 3 scores counting towards the total.  Individual prizes are also up for offer these day’s, if you think you may be interested in playing in these events please don’t hesitate to contact me.

That’s all for now and I’ll leave you with this quote from English Author and Philosopher GK Chesterton.

“I regard golf as an expensive way to play marbles.”
