September Course Report, Written by Glenn Robinson

Monthly Medals

Congratulations to Rob Frederickson for winning the Men’s Monthly Medal for September.  Rob got off to a great start paring the first hole before dropping a couple of shots over the next few holes.  A resurgence towards the end of the front nine saw him make the turn nett 1 under.  Another par to start the back nine and then steady golf before a strong finish of two nett birdies to shoot a nett 68 and win the medal by 1 shot over 3 chasers.

Congratulations to Kay Grieve who won the Ladies Monthly Medal for September.  In tough conditions, Kay got out of the blocks early being nett 3 under after 5 holes.  A slight hiccup on the 6th & 7th holes before a nett birdie on the 8th saw Kay make the turn nett 2 over.  Kay started the back nine with a par on 10, followed by steady golf for the rest of the round, finishing 1 shot clear of the next 2 players.

Spring Sprint

Now that spring has sprung, it’s time for the annual Spring Sprint.  This is an individual Stableford Aggregate played over 2 rounds on the 14th & 21st of September.  These 2 rounds also coincide with the 5th & 6th round of the Dwyer Cup.

Family Hotel Challenge

There was change at the top of the Family Hotel Challenge with Glenn Vanderligt jumping 2 spots to now lead.  Graham Rawson is currently sitting in 2nd place 46 points behind with Bob Naismith narrowly biting at his heels a further 9 points back.  The full leaderboard is available on the club’s website.

Shootout

The qualifying for the shootout is nearing its completion with the final round being held on the 21st September.  The top 19 players will earn a spot in the final to be held on Sunday 13th October.

Premier League

Thank you to the members who have already submitted their teams for the upcoming Premier League.  This competition will start on Saturday October 5th and the final is scheduled for December 21st.  Teams consist of 6 players, with the best 2 scores counting towards the teams score each week.  If you don’t have enough players to field a team or you are wanting to play but don’t have a team, please contact me and I’ll happily find you a place.

Prize Accounts

A reminder that any prizes won (money or balls) from September 1st now have an expiry of 12 months from the date awarded.  Monetary prizes can be used to purchase items in the clubhouse or the pro shop.

MiClub Booking System

I have had a few people ask me how the booking system works for competition days.  After consulting with MiClub they have explained how their system works.  Members can join the pool from 30 mins (6:30pm) before bookings open and when the booking sheet opens, 5 members are randomly chosen from the pool in a lottery and allowed access to the time sheet straight away.  All other members are put in a queue and allowed access when other members have completed their booking.  MiClub uses this system for all their clubs that have online bookings, if anybody needs more clarification please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Rule of the Month

This month’s rule relates to measuring devices (rangefinders, GPS and phones).  The rules of golf allow these to be used but with restrictions, they may only be used to give a distance to a point chosen on the course.  In the case of rangefinders, they can only be used to give the exact distance of the object being targeted and any adjustments for the slope of the ground must not be used in competitions.  Most rangefinders have the option to turn this feature off for this reason.

That’s all for now and I’ll leave you with this quote from Carl Spackler, Greenskeeper of the Bushwood Country Club.

“Of course I talk to myself.  Sometimes I need and expert opinion.”
